OLLI Cinema Club

Barbara Spear, who holds a Masters degree in Cinema Studies from San Francisco State
University, has watched and loved movies all her life. She has taught courses for Osher
Lifelong Learning Institute that concentrate on the classic Hollywood cinema, as well as
general film courses at Sonoma State University and Napa Valley College. Barbara
organizes and moderates monthly film meetings for Lifelong Friends of Film at the Rialto
Cinemas Sebastopol and for the OLLI Cinema Club that frequently meets at the Rohnert Park-Cotati Library. She also has her own website, filmfrog.org, which concentrates on classic Hollywood films.

Our movie group meets at the Rialto on the last Friday of the month. I am pleased to announce the film for the August meeting of Lifelong Friends of Film:

COYOTE VS. ACME is a feature film based on the shorts featuring the famous antagonists. It is a combination of animation & live-action. It’s almost the end of Summer, so let’s have some fun at the movies. The story is set in the Acme warehouse, the manufacturer of anything & everything used by the Looney Tunes characters. COYOTE VS. ACME has been getting attention because of all the terrific reviews it’s received. Zach Pope of the website Zach Pope Reviewscalls the film, “The best Looney Tunes Movie ever made. The fact that this almost never saw the light of day is absolutely mind blowing. Packed with heart, humor and overflowing with love. But beneath all the laughs is a powerful message about corporatism.” The film is currently rated a very strong 95% by the critics on the Rotten Tomatoes website.

The generous Ky Boyd and his Rialto staff will, once again, offer our group the opportunity to discuss the film in the theater after the screening. When the movie is over, just stay in the theater for our discussion, for which we will have about half an hour. We’ll play it by ear.
